Have you ever been asked by a child, “Where do babies come from?”

Adults have come up with so many different stories to answer that question… so I decided to paint my own.

In Baby Universe, new little humans begin their journey inside lotus flowers — quietly growing somewhere before they arrive in our world.

For me, it’s a playful and slightly philosophical version of where new life begins. And maybe, if you want to look a little deeper, where our souls are before they become us.

One of those paintings that started as a slightly strange idea in my head and became one of my favourites.

Baby Universe is available for sale. I can especially imagine it in a family home, nursery, or in a space belonging to someone whose work is connected with children and new life — a doula, birth worker or wellbeing practitioner.
